It is with great privilege that Integrated Living Opportunities (ILO) announces our latest fundraising and awareness campaign. We are thrilled to be able to present our ILO families, board members, staff, volunteers and friends with the opportunity to view Intelligent Lives, a new documentary created by award winning filmmaker Dan Habib. We will be offering two private screenings this coming fall, in Maryland and Virginia, and we cordially invite you to attend.

About Intelligent Lives

“Can any attempt to measure intelligence predict a person’s value, or potential to contribute meaningfully to the world?”
This question, posed by Chris Cooper (father of a young adult with disabilities, Academy Award winner and film narrator) sets the stage for an explorative new documentary, titled Intelligent Lives. The documentary “challenges what it means to be intelligent”, while exploring ways in which adults with disabilities – people of all abilities – can “fully participate in higher education, meaningful employment, and intimate relationships.”

Intelligent Lives stars three pioneering young American adults with intellectual disabilities – Micah, Naieer, and Naomie – who challenge perceptions of intelligence as they navigate high school, college, and the workforce. Cooper, as narrator, contextualizes the lives of these central characters through the emotional story of his son Jesse, as the film unpacks the shameful and ongoing track record of intelligence testing in the U.S.

The documentary is a catalyst to transform the label of intellectual disability from a life sentence of isolation into a life of possibility for the most systematically segregated people in America. For more information on the film itself, follow this link to visit the Intelligent Loves website. A trailer for the film can be viewed here.
ILO is committed to raising awareness and helping young adults with disabilities live more productive and full lives. We hope that you support us by attending one of two private screenings that we are hosting as a part of our fundraising and awareness campaign.
