Promotes global development  and dissemination of progressive policies, sound research, effective practices, and universal human rights for people with intellectual disabilities. The Institute for Community Inclusion
The Institute for Community Inclusion supports the rights of children and adults with disabilities to participate in all aspects of the community. As practitioners, researchers, and teachers, we form partnerships with individuals, families, and communities. Together we advocate for personal choice, self-determination, and social and economic justice. This is an excellent special needs resource.

Autism Speaks

The Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities is a Coalition of national consumer, advocacy, provider and professional organizations headquartered in Washington, D.C. Since 1973, the CCD has advocated on behalf of people of all ages with physical and mental disabilities and their families. CCD has worked to achieve federal legislation and regulations that assure that the 54 million children and adults with disabilities are fully integrated into the mainstream of society. This is an excellent special needs resource.

Center for Parent Information and Resources
This site serves the nation as a central source of information on disabilities in infants, toddlers, children, and youth, IDEA, which is the law authorizing special education, No Child Left Behind (as it relates to children with disabilities), and research-based information on effective educational practices.

The Treatment and Learning Centers
TLC is a local, non-profit organization in Rockville, MD founded in 1950. They offer many first-rate programs and services for the community, including a Family Hearing Center, Childcare, and Preschool programs, testing and tutoring services, and a community education program.

Non-profit organization dedicated to supporting foster, kinship, and adoptive families of children and youth with disabilities and other special needs. We serve families, educators and child welfare professionals in the Northern Virginia area.

Shared Horizons, Inc.: A Pooled Special Needs Trust Enhancing the Lives of People with Disabilities
Shared Horizons, Inc. is a nonprofit organization established by the Quality Trust for Individuals with Disabilities, Inc., in conjunction with University Legal Services and the District of Columbia Government.
