Why Support ILO?

ILO is a non-profit organization devoted to helping families of young adults with developmental disabilities transition their loved ones to independent living. ILO helps these individuals (whom we call self-advocates) become more self-sufficient and helps prepare them to live within the wider community.

In order for ILO to continue to grow and thrive, we need your support!   Joining us at this event gives you an opportunity to learn more about our organization and to meet these incredible young people.

About Integrated Living Opportunities – ILO

Executive director Maedi Tanham Carney founded ILO in 2015. Since that time, our organization has grown by leaps and bounds. The ILO Community is 28 families strong, and has participating families from across the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area as well as Northern Virginia. ILO supports 18 self-advocates that live independently, across 5 pods. ILO’s community builders are on site to help self-advocates build relationships with each other, and to help peers take part in activities together.

Our ILO Community Group, which includes both ILO participating families and families considering independent living, now has 70+ families that get together regularly for self-advocate activities and parent presentations (past topics have included Long-term Facilitation, the ABLE Act, Fannie Mae Mortgages, & State Waiver Systems).
