ILO has a lot going on! It’s wonderful. Our new newsletter is designed to give you the inside scoop on what’s happening in our community, in our PODs, with our self-advocates and their families, and in the wide world of disability.
We will be showcasing ILO’s activities and events, projects, program goals, staff, and ILO’s self-advocates and their families.

Meet ILO’s newest Community Builder – Jae Johnson
 
Jae is the non-residential community builder for Rockville and Gaithersburg MD. Jae has been serving individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities for more than 6 years.
The past 3 years have been spent working with individuals in the Washington Metropolitan area, since relocating from Buffalo, New York. Jae joined ILO because she has a passion for the work she does and loves helping people achieve their full
ILO’s Highlights
ILO’s Board Chair Matt Hoffman offers solutions for affordable housing
ILO Board Chair Matt Hoffman was recently interviewed on the role of technology in increasing housing affordability.
“We’re 7.4 million affordable housing units short of our housing needs in the US today. Over the next 10 years we’ll need to build another 4 million rental units just to keep up along with 8 million homes for sale. Ouch.”
ILO November Community Group Presentation: Learning about Maryland Self Direction & Shared Support MD, Inc.
Debbie Fickenscher a founding family member of ILO explained and answered questions about Maryland’s DDA Self Direction.
In addition, Gail Godwin Executive Director of Share Support Maryland, Inc. shared how they provide person centered supports & services to individuals with I/DD who live in their own homes controlling all aspects of their own lives.
November’s Social Sunday at Bowlero Bethesda
This event was a huge success and a lot of fun. We had 18 ILO self-advocates participate, some were new self-advocates, and everyone seemed to have a really great time. Be sure to save the date for January 19, 2020, 3:00-4:30 pm at Bowlero Bethesda. Your family must be a member of the ILO Community Group to attend. See you there!
 ILO Annual Potluck
This year’s annual potluck was once again held at Maedi’s home with about 80 in attendance. Lots of great food, desserts, drinks and mingling. Thank you Maedi!
