The countdown is on: Integrated Living Opportunities’ (ILO) third annual Hike, Bike & BBQ is happening THIS coming Sunday, May 19.

This “fun”raising event is an excellent opportunity to support ILO while socializing with self-advocates, meeting participating family members, and learning about the community building work that ILO does for adults with disabilities.

Lots of Fun – Lots of Options

Participants can either walk or hike along the C&O Canal (and turn around at any point during the 8km round trip trail) before returning to the picnic area for a delicious BBQ. Or, if walking/biking isn’t your thing, you can hang out in the BBQ area mingling with supporters!

Details

The Hike, Bike & BBQ takes place on May 19, beginning at 9:00am when all participants meet at the Carderock Recreation Area Pavilion. At 9:30, participants that are walking or biking along the trail will begin, heading west on the canal towpath. Again, participants not interested in this aspect of the event can hang out and socialize at the pavilion. After the bike/hike, everyone will return to the picnic area around 11:00, when we fire up the BBQ for some food and fun.

REGISTER NOW!

The registration fee for this event is $35, which includes an ILO t-shirt, and food and drink. If you are interested in attending this event, you can REGISTER HERE.

Why Support ILO?

ILO is a non-profit organization devoted to helping families of young adults with developmental disabilities transition their loved ones to independent living. ILO helps these individuals (whom we call self-advocates) become more self-sufficient and helps prepare them to live within the wider community.

Since ILO was founded in 2015, the organization has been making a positive impact in the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families. ILO has 28 participating families, and supports 18 self-advocates that live independently across 5 community pods, with ILO’s community builders on site to help self-advocates build relationships with each other, and to help peers take part in activities together.

We are also very proud of our newest community building venture, ILO Community Group, which has 70+ families that meet regularly to socialize, take part in fun activities, learn new skills, and attend valuable and informative presentations on topics of vital importance to the disability communities across the country.

So remember: in order for ILO to continue to grow, thrive and build communities for adults with disabilities, we need your support!  Joining us at this event or donating to ILO gives you an opportunity to learn more about our organization, meet these incredible young people, and help us do what we do best: providing the tools and support needed for adults with disabilities to live full, independent lives.

THANK YOU SPONSORS

Thank you to the generous sponsors who support these young adults in their journey to independent living. We are grateful!
